In 2005 Scope, the leading disability organisation, bought together a group of organisations to form the Centre for Inclusive Technology & Design (CITD). Its purpose was to help major blue-chip companies place inclusion at the heart of their product and service design activities.
Initial members of CITD included Scope; the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB); Ricability; the UK Institute of Inclusive Design (UKiiD); the Royal College of Art, Helen Hamlyn Centre; Cambridge Engineering Design Centre and Sagentia.
The UK Department of Trade and Industry awarded funding for CITD to undertake work with eight blue-chip companies, auditing their key products and developing training packages for senior management. BT subsequently commissioned the development of this toolkit.
CITD will continue to raise awareness and develop skills amongst corporations throughout the UK through consultation, research and training.
