Cambridge simulation glasses

These glasses simulate a general loss of the ability to see fine detail, but are not intended to represent any particular eye condition. This type of loss normally occurs with ageing and the majority of eye conditions, as well as not wearing the most appropriate glasses.

The levels of impairment that can be simulated with these glasses are calibrated to Snellen Visual Acuity (VA), covering the range from a typical older adult (VA 20/25) to severe visual impairment (VA 20/200). See the user manual for a detailed explanation of this calibration.

These glasses can help to: understand how visual acuity loss affects real world tasks, empathize with those who have poor vision, and assess the visual demand of a task, based on the level of impairment for which it remains possible.

Visual conditions typically involve many effects that are not simulated by Cambridge Simulation Glasses. For example, a simulation cannot convey what it is really like to live with capability loss on an everyday basis. Cambridge Simulation Glasses are intended to supplement other evaluation tools (described within the Getting started section). These glasses should not be solely relied upon to draw conclusions about capability loss and its effects on product use.
